Interests & Passions
A major area of research is to better understand how leaders located in small communities lead towards community wide sustainability, which includes economic, social and environmental viability and the way in which that contributes to national and global resilience, as well as having the potential to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs. Related to this is the manner in which professional work (“good work”), personal values and collaborations influence organizations toward positive change that can influence major societal shifts. In addition, with other researchers, I am exploring the competencies needed to build resilience and the actions of shared leadership among loosely-affiliated groups (as well as partnerships), that create movements across spheres of influence and sectors.

Why am I an OPEN fellow?
It’s important at this time in the history of our world to work together to make the changes needed to solve some of the most important questions and challenges we will ever face. To find support in collaboration is one of the important values and skills that we must exemplify moving forward. I am excited to be a participant with others as an OPEN fellow toward this goal.
How can I help change agents?
I enjoy learning with others and appreciate the variety of interests and responses brought by a diverse set of participants who are eager to work together toward a common goal. It is particularly rewarding to work toward common goals that benefit those left behind and that move toward finding solutions to our most pressing problems. I also enjoy working individually to encourage and mentor those who are engaged in work that is challenging and who are envisioning their roles and responsibilities in new and creative ways.
