Introduction |
Dr. Barb Altman has over 20 years experience teaching and researching in the areas of corporate social responsibility, change management and leadership. Her particular interest is in cross-sector partnerships and the leadership skills needed to be successful in such challenging initiatives. She will be developing a new graduate course on this subject for A&M’s new OPEN Masters in Leadership to launch Fall 2018. Barb is skilled in applied qualitative research and enjoys writing case studies that can also be used in class settings. She is an expert in online teaching, and a named Research Colleague with Quality Matters, a benchmarking platform for online learning. At A&M – Central Texas, where she has taught for 7 years, she also leads the accreditation and quality assurance activities of the College of Business Administration. Prior to her position at A&M – Central Texas, she was on the faculty of the College of Business at the University of North Texas. Her Doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Management Policy is from the Boston University School of Management, with a Master’s in Public Affairs and Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. In between her Master’s and Doctoral work, she had a very successful career in local and regional city management. She has earned Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa distinctions in her academic work. Barb lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Arthur and favorite dog, Sandy; they enjoy hiking and visiting national parks on vacation. Barb has two wonderful grown children, Blair and Gabe. |
Why am I an OPEN Fellow? |
I am thrilled to be part of this initiative from the ground floor. I have been teaching topics related to CSR and sustainability for many years and value the opportunity to delve deeper in to these issues with colleagues from all over the world. |

I am specially interested in the interplay between partnerships, leadership and change management as it relates to instituting more progressive sustainability and CSR practices. This can be internal to the firm or external, working with a variety of stakeholders and/or some kind of partnership structure. |
